With the sun comes a little rain

A little rain helps plants, animals, and life in general thrive. Most of the western half of the country has been in a massive drought for many years. These recent storms in Colorado are a huge relief for the drought stricken area. However they do pose some other issues. On of the biggest we are seeing now is the flooding and the damage caused by that. In Victor a large pond formed next to the Phantom Canon road. The rains led to a large sink hole on the other side of the road, which does have old mining tunnels under it, which at night someone drove into the sink hole. Further down the Phantom the road is closed do to getting washed out by the creek. Also many rock slides have fallen on the road. On the bright side, ponds, reservoirs, lakes, and rivers are filling up leading to great fishing. Also the springs that have been dry for so many years are flowing like never before. The grass is green and with the few days of partial sun we have gotten is wonderful for the cows, horses, and...

Market Review for the month of April

A market review for the month of April for the Cripple Creek- Victor area. In the month of April we saw a downward trend in single-family residences listed and sold however the sold prices have rose 54.6% from last year. In the townhome and condominium market there has been little change for the month of April. Another positive sign for the month of April was the days on the market have decreased by 58.4% from last year with the average being 52 days on the market. The month of May is looking like another good month for sellers to get their full asking price. Many people are coming to the area looking for second homes and parcels to build their dream home on.

What can one do when the road gets tough?

What is a person to do? When you are caught in a rut with no where to go? Many people cannot seem to get over the hurdle that is holding them back. They feel that something will come along and help them magically get out with no pain or suffering.   I learned at a young age that if you are stuck in a rut the best choice is to learn as you climb. Don't give up on what seems impossible. I am reminded of this I recent days as I have faced some struggles in my personal life. While my work life has remained steady and strong (thanks to the help of my father). My personal life has been more of a train wreck. First I had to cut back on some volunteer work I did (hardest decision I have had to make in 28 years), Then I had to deal with the loss of a few friends. All of this was due to my health. Being able to work from home (bed) on a computer and still work was my only sanity during this last week. I have prayed for an easy way out of this rut but so far I am taking the long climb up. I...

Tuesday morning in May or is it December

Well today we wake up to sunny skies and around 8 inches of wet, heavy snow on the ground. It is May and this type of thing in not uncommon here. What is uncommon is getting the phone call that my father has gotten stuck in his driveway. Now granted he got way more snow than I did and he is only two miles away. I know the snow will melt quickly and we are in desperate need of the moisture but, I really wish, hope, and pray that one day we would get a break! We are entering the flood season which can be detrimental to the local economy since tourist will not come up as often or avoid us all together for fear of being stranded. Plus I have cows I need to bring home but it is to muddy to get them out of winter pasture. So for now I will keep the fire going and bake.... maybe Christmas cookies?

Just a rant of sorts

This weekend has been a fun, busy, and entertaining one. I went up to Denver to help my Dad at a gun show, we had a great father daughter bonding time. I stayed up there over night and came home early this morning (way to early) so I could attend mass. Mass was wonderful and the visiting Priest was very kind. After mass I came home and thought I would do some school work, maybe clean the house (once a week if I am lucky) and go check on the cows. I sat down for a minute and woke up at 6 p.m. so I thought ok I am worn out from the trip and excitement, I will take it easy. My not so little kitten decided that was not a good plan, as she ran around the house like a terror, tried to jump on the deer mount and to top it off ran off with the last of my taco for dinner. Now as I type she is staring at me from the closet. I guess next time I leave I should take her with me.

One of those days

Working hard and trying to make a living is getting the better of me today. I would much rather be out in the sunshine since it has been so rainy here for the past week. Every time I go to take a break someone calls or a emergency email shows up (thank you technology for informing me on everything that happens.... I need to know that my friend liked a post about potato chips). So I have been stuck working away while looking out the window. Last time I looked it was looking like the storms are rolling back in. Today is one of those days I guess where I am being productive (don't feel like I am) but I really wish I doing something not work related! Oh well.... Back to the grindstone (I hope the cows get out so I can do some outside work!)

Events in Victor Colorado for the Summer of 2015

Here is a list of events happening in Victor Colorado this summer! Come join the fun!

Not all idle time is bad

Today I had a spare minute, where I was waiting for a call back and had finished some work early. I wrote a letter to a friend, watered the plants, and went out to plant some seeds in a flower garden. Now before I did all this silly work (that is the phrased used in the family) I was on edge something was driving me crazy. I was stressed and mad for no real reason at all. Being out in the fresh air and playing in the dirt made a world of difference. I know it is not really "money making" tasks I did but it was so refreshing to come back and look at the work I needed to do with a clear head and a better attitude. I still have no clue what was so upsetting earlier today but at least it is no longer bothering me and hopefully I will have flowers to look at soon out my window!

My right hand man and sometimes my brain.

As a person who sometimes has to many irons in the fire, I have learned that being and staying organized is a challenge. First I did the sticky note on the computer, but between me saying "I'll do that later" and the cat thinking they where the best toys ever it didn't work. I bought a day planner after talking to a dear friend at the Assessors Office. Did I use it? At first no, I was horrible filling in my day after it was over! I had a class at Kaplan University that made me keep track of my time. (Papers are not going to write themselves). I have found that keeping myself on track is really helping me get things done. I use the block method and give myself an allotted amount of time to complete a task. Now here is the brain part. You ever have a day where you are not sure what is going on? Happens to me a lot. To many things pop up and I loose track of everything. (Case in point missing bull, neighbor found him and called told me where he was, if I had not writt...
This home is in very nice condition, has been well maintained. Zoning allows for horses as well as other livestock, property is fenced, garage has a nice shop as well as storage space. good views, city water, close enough to the mine and casinos for an easy commute.
This is a great hunting property, not far from Skaguay Reservoir. Access by two separate properly recorded easements. There are NO easements through the property. Excellent elk, turkey, and mule deer hunting. Grazing lease can continue that at the option of the new owner. There is a well on the property, and power to the property, but no residence or dwelling. There is an older barn in generally good condition. This is rare opportunity, not many contiguous parcels of this size available in the CCV area. Two springs, good well, great horse property, outstanding hunting property, minimal improvements so you can build exactly what you want, not what somebody else wanted. trees, meadows, rock formations, unbelievable views.
