Spring Trends!

Spring Trends: Definitely NOT Your Grandma’s House Do you follow trends? Sometimes trends “work” with our dĂ©cor. Other times they just don’t.   Check out what the experts at  House Beautiful  magazine predict and determine whether you’ll be incorporating any into your home this Spring.   1. Embellishments The experts say fringing, tufting, tassels and feathers are “in” this season and will add a “handmade” quality to each room.  And we’ll find them on cushions, wall hangings, throws, rugs and accessories. 2. Geometrics Geometrics are sure to add interest to any room.  Experts say we’ll see them on everything from wallpaper to art to tiles.  Definitely a bold choice! 3. Houseplants It seems that the common houseplant is becoming the “must have” for homes this Spring. Plants warm up any space and give that homey feel.  Green plants always work well with a textured piece, like a rug or distressed bookcase. 4. Glit...

3-24-17 snowy Friday!

Snow day in the mountains! It’s a snowy mess up here today! While Victor doesn’t have the totals yet that the rest of the county does, we have the wind for sure! Glad to see the moisture that is for sure but if traveling in the area please use caution when traveling. Check local road cameras or reports before traveling!
Today, while a normal Wednesday in many ways is also bittersweet. Yesterday we loaded up a bull that was a bit too dangerous to have on the ranch.  He would get on the fight almost anytime you had to deal with him. I will not miss being chased over the fence that is for sure but it is still sad to see him go. A few months back he ran over my fiancĂ© and that was the last straw. So after months of eluding capture he was caught and yesterday hauled off to his fate. Why I say it is bittersweet, I love my cows and I hate to loose a wonderful bull who did give me good calves, but I am looking forward the check I will get in the mail tomorrow! That will really help with wedding planning and fixing my truck! Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! (picture is not of the bull I sold but of one of my favorite bulls  Ferdinand!)

With the sun comes a little rain

A little rain helps plants, animals, and life in general thrive. Most of the western half of the country has been in a massive drought for many years. These recent storms in Colorado are a huge relief for the drought stricken area. However they do pose some other issues. On of the biggest we are seeing now is the flooding and the damage caused by that. In Victor a large pond formed next to the Phantom Canon road. The rains led to a large sink hole on the other side of the road, which does have old mining tunnels under it, which at night someone drove into the sink hole. Further down the Phantom the road is closed do to getting washed out by the creek. Also many rock slides have fallen on the road. On the bright side, ponds, reservoirs, lakes, and rivers are filling up leading to great fishing. Also the springs that have been dry for so many years are flowing like never before. The grass is green and with the few days of partial sun we have gotten is wonderful for the cows, horses, and...

Tuesday morning in May or is it December

Well today we wake up to sunny skies and around 8 inches of wet, heavy snow on the ground. It is May and this type of thing in not uncommon here. What is uncommon is getting the phone call that my father has gotten stuck in his driveway. Now granted he got way more snow than I did and he is only two miles away. I know the snow will melt quickly and we are in desperate need of the moisture but, I really wish, hope, and pray that one day we would get a break! We are entering the flood season which can be detrimental to the local economy since tourist will not come up as often or avoid us all together for fear of being stranded. Plus I have cows I need to bring home but it is to muddy to get them out of winter pasture. So for now I will keep the fire going and bake.... maybe Christmas cookies?
