A little rain helps plants, animals, and life in general thrive. Most of the western half of the country has been in a massive drought for many years. These recent storms in Colorado are a huge relief for the drought stricken area. However they do pose some other issues. On of the biggest we are seeing now is the flooding and the damage caused by that. In Victor a large pond formed next to the Phantom Canon road. The rains led to a large sink hole on the other side of the road, which does have old mining tunnels under it, which at night someone drove into the sink hole. Further down the Phantom the road is closed do to getting washed out by the creek. Also many rock slides have fallen on the road. On the bright side, ponds, reservoirs, lakes, and rivers are filling up leading to great fishing. Also the springs that have been dry for so many years are flowing like never before. A market review for the month of April for the Cripple Creek- Victor area. In the month of April we saw a downward trend in single-family residences listed and sold however the sold prices have rose 54.6% from last year. In the townhome and condominium market there has been little change for the month of April. Another positive sign for the month of April was the days on the market have decreased by 58.4% from last year with the average being 52 days on the market. The month of May is looking like another good month for sellers to get their full asking price. Many people are coming to the area looking for second homes and parcels to build their dream home on.

What is a person to do? When you are caught in a rut with no where to go? Many people cannot seem to get over the hurdle that is holding them back. They feel that something will come along and help them magically get out with no pain or suffering.   I learned at a young age that if you are stuck in a rut the best choice is to learn as you climb. Don't give up on what seems impossible. I am reminded of this I recent days as I have faced some struggles in my personal life. While my work life has remained steady and strong (thanks to the help of my father). My personal life has been more of a train wreck. First I had to cut back on some volunteer work I did (hardest decision I have had to make in 28 years), Then I had to deal with the loss of a few friends. All of this was due to my health. Being able to work from home (bed) on a computer and still work was my only sanity during this last week. I have prayed for an easy way out of this rut but so far I am taking the long climb up. I...

Well today we wake up to sunny skies and around 8 inches of wet, heavy snow on the ground. It is May and this type of thing in not uncommon here. What is uncommon is getting the phone call that my father has gotten stuck in his driveway. Now granted he got way more snow than I did and he is only two miles away. I know the snow will melt quickly and we are in desperate need of the moisture but, I really wish, hope, and pray that one day we would get a break! We are entering the flood season which can be detrimental to the local economy since tourist will not come up as often or avoid us all together for fear of being stranded. Plus I have cows I need to bring home but it is to muddy to get them out of winter pasture. So for now I will keep the fire going and bake.... maybe Christmas cookies?

This weekend has been a fun, busy, and entertaining one. I went up to Denver to help my Dad at a gun show, we had a great father daughter bonding time. I stayed up there over night and came home early this morning (way to early) so I could attend mass. Mass was wonderful and the visiting Priest was very kind. After mass I came home and thought I would do some school work, maybe clean the house (once a week if I am lucky) and go check on the cows. I sat down for a minute and woke up at 6 p.m. so I thought ok I am worn out from the trip and excitement, I will take it easy. My not so little kitten decided that was not a good plan, as she ran around the house like a terror, tried to jump on the deer mount and to top it off ran off with the last of my taco for dinner. Now as I type she is staring at me from the closet. I guess next time I leave I should take her with me.
